Understanding Note Taking from Keywords
As their prior knowledge the students start the lesson by watching a short movie about Marco Polo then they are asked try to find some important information about the movie and compare it with a short article about the same topic Marco Polo without being told the importance of 5W and 1H questions. From this activity the students will come up with various result of the note taking. Then They continue the activity by understanding the article of Marco Polo through three different activities, Reading task, finding keywords and note making. From all these four activities students come up with new understanding that it is a lot easier if we focus on sentence by sentence in order to find the keywords. Then continue to expand the words by finding 3 describing words before they develop their own paragraph.

Note Taking & Note Making (Students' Choice of Certain Exploration)
Students start their own inquiry of note taking and note making by choosing their own explorer. They should find 2 articles about the same exploration/explorer. They can either choose the resources printed or electronic. The next step, they read the articles and highlight every keywords on the texts. Some of them choose to use different color to recognise different questions. Then they move their finding to their own book. They can choose their own way to record their finding in their books. After the note taking done, they should close all the original resources and start to build their paragraph based on the notes that they have. Last but not least they record the references in simple format.
Differentiation (Content, Process and Product)
During the unit there are some students recognised for having different learning style. Two of them are struggling in understanding English and two of them are having difficulties in expressing their ideas in writing. Therefore there are some strategies taken in handling these students.
Christhoper Tanujaya 5C
He has difficulties in spending time reading the article. This is because his English is not good and he doesn't understand the text clearly. Therefore the scaffolding for him is accompany him in reading the text and formulating questions. Then, have the session of question and answer to clarify the answers. The teacher sometimes need to explain the sentence in different words so that he understands the content. In order to answer the questions, instead of asking him to take notes and later on build up into paragraph it is better to find the answer directly on the text and ask him to explain it orally. When he repeat the sentence in his own words ask him to write down the answer on his book. Here he will understand the question and is able to answer it without copying the words from the text.
Abel Chrisnaldy 5A
It seems Abel has difficulties in comprehending the instruction in English. He often out of task and the teacher needs to remind him again. He has to have one on one guidance to understand the article. The strategy to have a mind map to make the connection in the article seems work for him. When he needs to find information he should look at the main topic such as "Early Life" then followed by question "What information should you find if you need to write an information about someone's life?" then from the discussion he will mention personal identity such as date of birth, family, etc. Then after he finds the sub topic the teacher continue the question "What information is in the family?" then he will come up with mother, father, brother, etc. After he gets the complete mind map the teacher ask him to develop the words by combining the information into short note taking before finally he put all the notes into simple paragraph.
Kendall Anjeanette 5C
Kendall finds difficulties in comprehending all texts and conversation in English. She is struggling when she has to deal with English text. Therefore during Information Literacy I gives her reading text in Bahasa which discuss about her explorer. Then she tries to ask questions based on 5W and 1H before she starts her notes. She can find only general information from the text based on the questions then she develops her notes into short paragraph based on the questions.
Suryo 5C
The concern for Suryo when he has to deal with reading text is the way he retell the information. He often explains the notes in jumble therefore I give him chance to explain through pictures and tables about major events or information of his explorer rather than push him to write notes then develop them into paragraph. This strategy fits with his needs. Through his picture he can explain clearer.
Vallen 5D
The most problem that Vallen face during the task is his understanding about the text itself. He needs guidance to break down the information one by one then write them in his notes. He should be asked to underline/see carefully the keywords in the questions in order to find the answers matched with the keywords in the reading text. Moreover he develop his notes in a sentence first before finally he put all together into paragraph in his summative task.
